The Health Metric You Should Be Measuring That You’ve Never Even Heard Of

Aortic stiffness is a key indicator of the health of your brain and body. It’s a meaningful way to track how old you are on the inside and yet, not many people even know of it let alone understand what this important health metric is.

Let’s break down what aortic stiffness is and how easy it is to measure with a personal health monitoring tool.

First of all, what is aortic stiffness?

The Aorta is the largest blood vessel in the body, running from your heart down through your abdomen. This artery transits blood from your heart to other parts of your body. When the aorta is stiff, the blood travels at a faster pace than it should, overworking the heart, and creating high levels of pressure in the blood vessels in the brain.

Aortic Stiffness is a bellwether of internal health. Think of it as an alarm. If you have increased Aortic Stiffness it means that there may be something else going on in your body and you might need to take steps to change your lifestyle habits to decrease Aortic Stiffness and Internal Age.

Aortic stiffness describes the reduced capability of the main artery of your body to expand and contract in response to pressure changes. This stiffness occurs as a consequence of biological aging. The stiffening can also be accelerated by too little daily activity, poor dietary choices, smoking, inadequate hydration and recurring or unresolved stress.

So why should I bother measuring my aortic stiffness?

Aortic stiffness is considered a growing epidemic associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events, dementia, and death.

Increased Aortic Stiffness has recently been proven to be a marker of brain damage leading to dementia and cognitive decline in younger adults.

If you care about your health and wellbeing, you should care about measuring aortic stiffness. If you still aren’t convinced, read this crazy long list of studies linking health to aortic stiffness: - studies-that-prove.

When you look up “aortic stiffness” online, all the results you get are scholarly articles, medical journals and publications aimed at doctors. The importance of measuring aortic stiffness no longer needs to be in a language only understood among the medical profession. Simply put, aortic stiffness serves as an indicator of just how much generalized stiffness you have inside and how that has aged you before your time.

Tracking aortic stiffness gives you an objective metric to judge the effectiveness of your training and lifestyle choices.

Ok, so how can I measure aortic stiffness?

Luckily, you can now measure your aortic stiffness with a simple mobile health monitoring tool: iHeart! The iHeart System records your pulse waves with a fingertip device and transmits them to the iHeart Internal Age app. The iHeart app analyzes the data to calculate Aortic Pulse Wave Velocity (AoPWV). Your AoPWV shows how quickly the pulse wave, sent out by each heartbeat, travels down your aorta to the bottom of your abdomen and back again. The stiffer the aorta, the faster the wave. Your calculated AoPWV is then compared to known values of different ages and populations to determine your Internal Age.

If you were surprised to learn how important aortic stiffness is and how simple it is to measure, share this post with your family and friends! You can also measure your aortic stiffness and find out how old you are on the inside by ordering your very own iHeart System today:
